The EXO network project is a good example of our work combining different expertices and ideas. The EXO network is neither research nor service, but both.

Consider the growth of social networks sites in the last few years. Partly motivated by the desire to better understand the social networking process, and partly motivated by the desire of offer a lucrative service, internet sites like Hyves in the Netherlands, or MySpace abroad have grown explosively.

On the other side, consider the access of migrants to the labor (or housing, or educational) market of a new country. How does that happens? Could it be that migrants behave simply equally that residents? Is it not the case that the first, or the second job of a migrant is obtained through his, or her social network? Let's suppose that this is the case.

The variogroep add these two ideas in the EXO network project. We are developping a social network, a virtual network or community site, focused to migrants. Not only a meeting or discussion place. But also a place to exchange knowledge adquired by first hand. Think in a combination of Hyves and LinkedIn with a preference for migrant issues.
